Q: Who can attend Internet Academy?
  A: Any student in grades K-12 who is eligible to attend a public school may attend Internet Academy. If your student is expelled, suspended, or in the BECCA process, please call the Internet Academy Registrar (253-945-2230) for further information.
Q: Can students outside the Federal Way School District take Internet Academy classes?
  A: Yes. Students do not have to reside within the boundaries of Federal Way Public Schools to attend Internet Academy.
Q: Is the Internet Academy an accredited institution?
  A: Yes. Internet Academy is accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools (NAAS).
Q: Can students graduate and earn a diploma from Internet Academy?
  A: Credits earned at Internet Academy may be transferred toward graduation at your home high school upon approval of your resident district. Internet Academy does not offer a comprehensive high school program and does not issue diplomas.
Q: Do students earn credit for Internet Academy courses?
  A: Credits are awarded for courses, but it is the student's responsibility to verify that their resident high school will accept Internet Academy credits towards graduation.
Q: Does a student need a computer to take classes with the Internet Academy?
  A: Yes. You will need a computer with Internet access in order to link to your courses and communicate through e-mail.
Q: Are there any tuition fees for Internet Academy courses?
  A:

Internet Academy is financially supported through the Washington State K-12 funding. Within the state funding parameters, a student is considered full-time when taking five (5) courses.

  • Students attending IA as their sole school may enroll in up to five (5) courses with no tuition fee charged. Students may be enrolled at IA and a building school with no tuition fee charged, as long as the combined number of courses between IA and a building school does not exceed five (5). An IA tuition fee will be required for each course exceeding the maximum of five (5). Students who are enrolled full-time (five or more courses) in a building school are required to pay tuition.
  • Tuition fees are nonrefundable. Students are required to inform Internet Academy of all courses taken at other educational facilities.

Q: How much is tuition at Internet Academy?
  A: If applicable, Tuition is $345.00 for each semester course (.5 credit).
Q: Is tuition for Internet Academy courses refundable?
  A: Tuition fees are nonrefundable.
Q: Can I take Internet Academy courses if I am registered in another school?
  A: Students may take a combination of classes at their resident school building and Internet Academy. However, you will need to check with your resident District administration office to determine whether your district allows dual enrollment.
  • If you are a full-time student at another school, tuition fees apply for any additional Internet Academy classes.
Q: What courses are offered during the school year?
  A: Internet Academy offers both core and elective courses. For a full listing please see our online Course Catalog.
Q: When are online applications available for the regular school year?
  A: Online applications begin the first Monday in August.
Q: How does Internet Academy work with students with special needs?
  A:

Internet Academy courses are mainstream, general education courses written at the identified grade span reading level.Accommodations that are a part of all our online courses and that may benefit a student's learning needs are:

  • Opportunities to revise assignments based on teachers' feedback Scheduling to work on assignments when most beneficial to student work habits Taking more time to complete a semester's worth of work (unless tuition has been paid for the 18 week access)
  • On-going communications with teachers

Internet Academy teachers are not endorsed in special education, and students with an IEP must continue to work with their case manager at their resident school to meet the objectives of the IEP.

Q: Can I enroll my student after the first day of the school year?
  A: Yes. Internet Academy offers open enrollment through early February. Please contact our Registrar (253-945-2230) for information regarding the last day enrollments will be accepted.
