Q: Is the Internet Academy an accredited institution?
A: Yes. Internet Academy is accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools (NAAS).
Q: Can a student enrolled in my school take a class with Internet Academy?
A: Most school districts allow dual enrollment; some do not. You will need to check with your district as to whether their policies allow a student to be shared between two districts.
  • If a student is enrolled full-time at your building (receiving the full state funding), additional courses taken at Internet Academy will be tuition based.
Q: What courses does Internet Academy offer?
A: Internet Academy offers both core and elective courses. For a full listing please see our online Course Catalog.
Q: Does Internet Academy offer credit retrieval courses?
A: Students take Internet Academy courses for a variety of reasons, one of these being to make up a failed class to gain credit.
Q: How do we release FTE to fund the class?
A: Each district designates an official to release attendance using a district designed form. These are usually available only at a district's main adminstrative office. This Release of Attendance is then sent to the Internet Academy where students are accepted under the Choice Law. Each Internet Academy class requires a .2 FTE release.
Q: How does Internet Academy work with students with special needs?
  A:

Internet Academy courses are mainstream, general education courses written at the identified grade span reading level.

Internet Academy teachers are not endorsed in special education and students with an IEP must continue to work with their case manager at their resident school to meet the objectives of the IEP.

For additional information please contact Wendy Nevin, at 253-945-2239 or wendy-nevin@iacademy.org.

Q: How does our school receive final grade information?
A: When a student completes a course, Internet Academy will mail a "Course Report" to the school and family. The Course Report contains information regarding the final grade, teacher comments, and credit earned. An official transcript may be requested by contacting Marcia McVicar at 253-945-2253 or Marcia-McVicar@iacademy.org.
Q: I have more questions about a student attending Internet Academy. Whom should I contact?
A: Please call our Registrar at 253-945-2230 or e-mail registrar@iacademy.org. Your questions will directed to the appropriate department for assistance.
Q: Can our school lease Internet Academy classes?
A: Yes. Internet Academy offers course lease options. Please contact our principal, Ron Mayberry, 253-945-2243 or ron-mayberry@iacademy.org for further information or to make arrangements for previewing courses.
Q: Are there employment opportunities with Internet Academy?
A: Internet Academy teachers must hold a Washington state teaching certificate and be endorsed in the content areas they are teaching. Any open positions at Internet Academy are posted on the Federal Way Public School's web site: Position Postings.
