Learning online is a Student – Parent – Teacher partnership. Parent involvement increases student success. When parents stay involved in making schedules, familiarize themselves with course material, assignments and grading progress, and communicate with teachers, students have a high degree of success.
Parents will be set up with a FirstClass® e-mail account to provide a method of communication between teacher and parent.

How do I submit my assignments? |

Students are expected to use their FirstClass® email (provided by Internet Academy) to submit all assignments. Some assignments are designated to be mailed or delivered to IA, such as drawings or posters, or students may need to come into the computer lab by appointment for presentations or math exams. |

How is my progress evaluated in a credit retrieval course? |

Student's work will be evaluated against the standards for the course. Meeting standards ensures a passing grade in the course. A C grade will be recorded to show the student that they have met standards. |

It is recommended the student plan on taking about 45 hours, but could be more or less. Some students may finish sooner, some may take longer to meet standards / required skills for the course. |

Students are expected to spend at least three hours per weekday per course for the summer session. |

Assignments will be graded according to meeting standards for the course. If an assignment meets standards, a Pass grade will be recorded for that assignment. If a student demonstrates mastery of a standards throughout the course, a final grade of C will be recorded and .5 credit earned. Should a student desire a higher grade than a C, the student will need to register and take the regular 6 week summer course. |

How will my student receive their final grade? |

Final grades will be emailed to the student and parent by August 13, 2008. Student course reports will be mailed home and to your school beginning August 18, 2008. |

Students are required to use FirstClass® as their school email to communicate with their IA teacher and to submit school work. Students will download this software from our website during the required online orientation process. |

We offer no refunds. Students/families are advised to make absolutely sure that our program is going to meet their needs prior to making their tuition payment. |

What if I plan on being gone during a portion of the summer for a family vacation? |

Families may have vacations planned but this does not excuse students from working or allow them to turn in many assignments all at the end of the course. The last day to turn in work is August 8, 2008. No extensions will be granted to complete work. |

Once the Orientation has been emailed to a designated instructor, the student will be placed in their class(es) with an assigned teacher. Students may begin working in their classes independently, as teachers are not available until the official first day of classes on June 30th. |

When can I work on my course work? |

As soon as a student completes their Online Orientation and receives an email reply from the Online Orientation teacher a student is able to begin working on their course. Students have access 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Teachers will be working with students beginning June 30th through August 8th. |

When do I submit my assignments? |

Each course has a schedule for assignment completion called the checklist. Students in Apex math classes follow a pacing calendar in the Apex course. Students are expected to stay caught up with the schedule each week and should submit each assignment as it is completed. This gives the student the best opportunity for feedback and progress toward completion. Do not wait to submit all of your assignments at the end of the course. |

Teachers work from home during the summer and will answer questions in the order they get them. Teachers will respond to help and question e-mails within 24 hours during the school week and may take 2 to 3 days to correct and return assignments. You will need to check with your own specific teacher for information on when they will be available. |
