IA recommendations
for part-time student status for Kindergarten.
Kindergarten students may register for the Compass Learning
Odyssey. Kindergarten students will be taking Math and English.
IA recommendations for part-time student status for Grade
1.
Students in Grade 1 may register for the Compass Learning Odyssey.
First grade students will be taking Math and English.
IA recommendations for part-time student status for Grade
2.
Students in Grade 2 may register for the Compass Learning Odyssey.
Second grade students will be taking English, Math, and a semester
of Science and a semester of Social Studies.
IA recommendations for part-time student status for Grade
3.
Students wanting to register as a third grader at IA will register
for the Compass Learning Odyssey (CLO) program. Students will be
taking English, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
IA recommends the following courses for part-time student status
for Grade 4.
Students wanting to register as a fourth grader at IA will register
for the Compass Learning Odyssey (CLO) program. Students will be
taking English, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
IA recommends the following courses for full-time student status
for Grade 5.
Students wanting to register as a fifth grader at IA will
register for the Compass Learning Odyssey (CLO) program. Students
will be taking English, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
IA recommends the following courses for full-time
student status for Grade 6.
Students wanting to register as a sixth grader at
IA will register for the Compass Learning Odyssey (CLO)
program. Students will be taking English, Math, Science,
and Social Studies.
Should a sixth grade student only want to take a math
class, IA offers those sixth graders one other option.

Honors Math 6 (MTH165/MTH166)
- This Introductory to Algebra math class uses curriculum
from APEX Learning that is provided by IA.
IA recommends the following courses for full-time
student status for Grade 7.

English 7 (ENG171/ENG172)-
A full year of reading, writing, and language arts,
helping to prepare students for the state WASL test.

Math Transitions
7 (MTH175/MTH176)- This Introductory to Algebra math
class uses curriculum from APEX Learning that is provided
by IA.

Geography 1 (SOC171/SOC172)
- A full year of geography.

Science 7 (SCI171/SCI172)
- A full year of science.
Elective includes:

PE (PE181) - A semester
of fitness and learning about bowling.
IA recommends the following courses for full-time
student status for Grade 8.

- A full year of reading, writing and language arts.
- Math Transitions 8
(MTH185/MTH186) - This Introductory to Algebra math class
uses curriculum from APEX Learning that is provided by
IA.

Algebra 1(MTH731/MTH732)
- A full year of math. A student must have completed
MTH185/186 (one year of pre-algebra) before registering
for Algebra 1. Algebra 1 is the first semester and when
a student completes Algebra 1 they will be moved into
Algebra 2 (MTH732). If a student has completed Algebra
1 and 2 you may need to go to the 9th grade courses
and register for Geometry (MTH831).

- A full year of history.

Science 8 (SCI181/SCI182)
- A full year of science.
Electives include:

Foods (HFL181) - A semester
of learning about nutrition along with learning how
to cook and doing actual cooking.

are based upon the Federal Way School District graduation requirements.

Freshman English 1/2 (ENG333/334) - A full year
of English.
Algebra 1/2 (MTH731/MTH732)
- A full year of algebra (first year). Other math offerings
include: Math Fundamentals (MTH440/MTH441), Introductory
Algebra (MTH728/729), Geometry 1/2 (MHT831/MTH832).
Physical Science 1/2 (SCI337/SCI338) - A full year
of science. SCI337 includes basic chemistry and Earth's environment.
SCI338 includes basic physics and astronomy.
Pacific Northwest History 1/2 (SOC337/SOC338) -
A full year of history.
Electives to total 1.0 credits.
Choices include Reading for Life (floppy disk drive required)
(ENG857), Photography (ART901/ART902), Drawing (ART861),
Web Design (IND690), Visual Communications (IND870), Keyboarding
(BUS851), Careers (SOC931), Earth Science (SCI821).
PE credit option for IA full time students: Submit time/activity
log of organized physical activity totaling 90 hours, completed
during school semester, signed by coach or supervising adult to
equal .5 credit. Request may be submitted to IA principal for fall
semester (.5) and spring semester (.5), to total 1.0 credit.

U.S. History 1/2 (SOC531/SOC532) - A full year of
history.
Science: IA does not offer upper level science (Chemistry or Physics).
Available science classes include Physical Science (SCI337/SCI338),
Biology (SCI431/SCI432), and Earth Science (SCI821)

IA does not issue diplomas and recommends Grade
12 students have a solid connection to a counselor in their
resident building to verify graduation requirements and approve
IA courses for graduation credit. We offer the following courses
for seniors to fulfill credits needed to meet their resident graduation
requirements.
2 English Electives - Choices include: Creative
Writing (ENG987), Shakespeare (ENG887), World Literature (ENG957),
Literature and Film (ENG777).
Civics (SOC827) - This is a one semester course
in American Government.
Personal Finance (SOC970 or MTH970) - A one semester
course covering practical application of topics in money management,
income, spending and credit, and saving and investing.
Business Law (SOC827) - A one semester course exploring
common legal issues encountered in daily life.
Health (HLT707) - A one semester course.
Elective offerings: Reading for Life
