Lessons 15-18
Probability and Statistics

Assessment Review Objective:

This is your chance to show your understanding and skills in probability and statistics. You have learned and practiced many of the skills needed. Now you can prove it to yourself!

You will be asked to demonstrate your skills in areas practiced in Lessons 15, 16, 17, and 18. There will be some multiple choice and some short answer questions.

Here is a list of the objectives you have studied and practiced in this first set of lessons.

Lesson 15
Probability

  • Demonstrate an understanding of measures of chance.
  • Use counting procedures and calculations to determine the number of outcomes and/or probability of a simple event.
  • Compare results of experiments and simulations with mathematical probabilities.

Lesson 16
Data Collection

  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to collect a random sample of data to represent a population.

Lesson 17
Data Organization and Analysis

  • Organize and display data in appropriate forms.
  • Calculate and appropriately use range and measures of central tendency to describe data.

Lesson 18
Prediction and Inference

  • Demonstrate an understanding of and make predictions and inferences based on analysis of experimental results, statistical data, and simple graphical representations.
  • Identify how statiscs can be used to support different points of view.

Review the Tips for each lesson. Remember, there is more information on each lesson's page. This is a good place to start, but you will also want to go back and review the first page of each lesson.

If you have time, you might skim over the Examples for each lesson.

Skim the Rubrics section of this course to review tips on answering multiple choice and short answer questions.

Be sure you are comfortable with the criteria for scoring and evaluating short answer questions because scoring your writing will be part of your responsibility.

When you are all warmed up and have enough time to complete the assessment, go ahead and demonstrate your effective math skills!
