Example 1:

Using the grid below, what are the coordinates for point A?

  1. (4,-1)
  2. (-1,4)
  3. (4,1)
  4. (1,-4)

To find the answer to this problem begin at the origin, (0,0). From the origin go to the right 4 along the positive side of the x axis and then down 1 along the negative side of the y axis. Therefore, point A is (4,-1).

You find that point A is located at (4,-1) which is choice A.
