Example 2:

Mark's scores on math quizzes are 77, 82, 69, 91, 95, 88, and 97.

  • What is Mark's average or mean score for his math quizzes?
  1. 97
  2. 86
  3. 75
  4. 69

To find the answer to this problem you will need to know how to find the mean of a given group of numbers. To find the mean you need to find the their sum and divide by the number of numbers in the group, which is 7.

  • 77 + 82 + 69 + 91 + 95 + 88 + 97 = 599
  • 599/7 = 85.57

Looking at your choices, choice B would be your answer as the answer you found would be 86 if it were rounded to the nearest ones.
