Example 1:

What two numbers come next in this number pattern?

15
10
14
9
13
8
12
____
____
  1. 6, 11
  2. 7, 3
  3. 7, 11
  4. 6, 3

The answer to this problem is letter C, as the next two numbers for this pattern would be 7 and then 11. Let's see how you arrived at that answer.

To begin, you want to see if you can see any kind of pattern with the numbers that are given. Look at the first two digits and then the third, is there something that is being done to each digit that is the same to each number?

As you continue to look, notice how the first number is 15, the third number is 14, the fifth number is 13, and the seventh number is 12. Notice how every other number decreases 1. You should now see that the next number in that part of the pattern, the ninth number would be 11. Great, you have the last number in the pattern figured out.

You took care of that numbers in the 1, 3, 5, and so on boxes, now what about the other boxes? Let's look at the second number and it is 10 and the fourth number is 9. The sixth number is 8. You can now see that going to the eighth number it will be one less than 8 which is 7.

Therefore you found out that the next two numbers would be 7 and 11. Your answer would be letter C. Great job!
