Once again begin by
making sure you understand the original problem.
One of the best ways to make sure you understand
the problem is to state the problem in
your own words. Let's try it.
Georgette made $500 a week the first 20
weeks of the year and then she received
a 10% raise so how much did she earn?
With the information you are given you
are able to find out how much she made
for 20 weeks by multiplying $500 by
20 weeks.
You are also able to find out how much
she received after her raise by multiplying
$500 times .10 (10%).
The question we are asked and need to
find out is how much she earned. Here is
the problem. With all of the information
you are given the one piece that you are
not given is in the question itself. We
could find out how much she earned, but
we aren't given a length of time or time
frame to find how much she made. You know
how much she made in 20 weeks and you know
how much she made with her raise, so you
could add the two findings together to
find how much she made, but you don't know
for how long.
So this problem cannot be solved as stated.
It will need a more specific question and
more information in order to answer this
one.
