Example 1:

Find the least common multiple (LCM) for 5, 12, and 30.

  1. 30
  2. 45
  3. 50
  4. 60

One way to solve this problem is the following:

Step 1: List the multiples of the three numbers.

5 - 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60
12 - 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72
30 - 30, 60

Step 2: Find the smallest multiple common to all three numbers.

The multiple of 60 is the least common to all. Therefore, the LCM of 5, 12, and 30 is 60. The correct answer for this one is letter D.
