Example 4:

Do the division:

348 76

  1. 4
  2. 3.578
  3. 4 R52
  4. 4 11/19

When solving this problem and dividing, you just need to be sure to express the remainder correctly. When you divide by 4 you end up with a remainder of 44.

Remember that the remainder of a division problem can be written as a fraction with the remainder as the numerator and the divisor the denominator. Therefore it would be 44/76. With this as our fraction, we can reduce it farther to 11/19 as 4 is the greatest common factor of 44 and 76 so we divide both top and bottom by 4.

Your final answer is D, 4 11/19.
