Example 5:

Do the multiplication:

2.135 x 0.7
  1. 14.945
  2. 1.4945
  3. 149.45
  4. 0.14945

When solving this multiplication of decimals, you multiply the two numbers and then count the number of decimal places to the right of each of the numbers. In 2.135 there are 3 places after the decimal while in .7 there is 1 place to the right. This is a total of 4 decimal places. Once you get your answer of 14945 you move the decimal from after the 5, four places to the left.

1494.5 (1), 149.45 (2), 14.945 (3), and finally 1.4945 (4)

Our final answer is B, 1.4945
