Practice 1:

Randy wanted to put a fence in his backyard and needed to estimate the distance to see how much fence he would need to buy. He couldn't find a ruler, yardstick, or even a tape measure, so he picked up a shovel to help him get an idea of the distance. Then he saw a longer piece of wood. He didn't know which one to use to help him.

  • What would you recommend to Randy to be more precise and to use to get an approximate length of fence?

Explain your answer using words, numbers and/or pictures.

This is another problem where a short response is required for two points. Be sure to give an answer to the question and then clearly explain your reasoning why you chose the one you did. It is your job to convince others that your solution is correct.

First point, answer the question.

Second point, explanation of your answer.
