You'll complete two reading selections for this assessment and eight questions, some multiple choice, some short answer. Take your time and do your best! At the end, you will see your score for the multiple choice questions, and will print the assessment for your teacher to score the short answer responses.

Thomas Alva Edison is probably most famous for his invention of the light bulb. Find out about his earlier childhood experiences and characteristics that played a part in his light bulb invention by reading, "Thomas Alva Edison," linked to the book icon on the right. There are many examples in history of people fleeing their homes to seek safety and new life in other countries. In 1975, the collapse of South Vietnam led to a mass exodus. Read, "The Refugees," by Brent Ashabranner, to understand a bit about the difficulty faced by those leaving home.
