INTERNET & COMMUNICATION ACCESS

Internet Essentials From Comcast

  • Effective Monday, March 16, Comcast is offering 2 months free to new Internet Essentials customers in response to recent and anticipated emergency measures associated with the COVID-19 outbreak. Visit www.internetessentials.com for more information.
  • Xfinity WiFi is Currently Free for Everyone
  • Xfinity WiFi hotspots across the country are available to anyone who needs them for free, including non-Xfinity Internet subscribers. For a map of Xfinity WiFi hotspots, visit www.xfinity.com/wifi. Once at a hotspot, you can select the “xfinitywifi” network name in the list of available hotspots and then launch a browser.

Lifeline Discount Smart Phone Programs

  • Lifeline is a government benefit program that provides monthly telephone service discounts for eligible consumers living on low incomes, helping create access to the opportunities and security that phone service affords – including being able to connect to jobs, housing, family and 9-1-1. Lifeline is supported by the Universal Service Fund. For more information call 2-1-1.
  • The Lifeline discount can now be applied to smart phone service. In Washington, Access Wireless, Assurance Wireless, enTouch Wireless, Family Mobile, Life Wireless, Q Link Wireless, Safelink Wireless,and TerraCom all offer no contract Lifeline smart phone service. Free voice mail, caller ID and call waiting are also included; smart phone handsets are not included. All of these companies sell Android smart phones for $50 or less. Kanopy Kids

Starting Monday, March 16, Kanopy is offering unlimited access to Kanopy Kids. Enjoy quality educational content like Sesame Street, Arthur and even language learning. Unlimited access (without using your monthly credits) will be available for 30 days. Visit Kanopy Kids.

Wilbooks

School Meals for Children:

  • During the school closure, children will have access to meals at no cost. Each child under the age of 18 may receive two free meals: one breakfast and one lunch. A student does not need to attend school at the distribution location to get meals. “Grab and go” meals will be available Monday through Friday, March 16 through April 24, except for the week of spring break.

Description: Operates a co-ed, 12-bed shelter for young adults ages 18-24. Clients enter the shelter in the evening and leave in the morning. While in the shelter, youth have access to light snacks as well as basic need items.

MSC Energy Assistance

Energy assistance appointments are still being held. We have modified the procedure and reduced the number of appointments in the office to help mitigate risk. Appointments can be made online or by phone. Please visit the energy assistance page for more information. PSE has announced they will not be disconnecting customers at this time (read more from PSE).

Utilities will not be Shut Off During this Outbreak

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) , Seattle City Light (SCL), and Puget Sound Energy (PSE) will keep utility services on during the COVID-19 Civil Emergency in Seattle. SPU and SCL customers who have been financially impacted by COVID-19, regardless of background or immigration status, can request a deferred payment plan that includes reversed late fees. SPU and SCL recommends that customers should as soon as possible call (206) 684-3000 or send an email anytime at seattle.gov/utilities/about-us/email-question. PSE is waiving late fees for customers who can find more information at PSE’s COVID-19 Response page.
