iA Students Are Diverse!
iA students pursue online learning for many different reasons and live all over WA state – or even in different countries! Our students are:
- Promising young athletes balancing travel, training & learning schedules
- Home-schoolers enhancing their curriculum with online courses
- Students enrolled in a local school wishing to take a class that isn’t offered locally
What are some important components for online learning success?
Solid team support in the home. Self-motivation and self-determination are key skills for learning at home, but depending on the student’s age and needs, additional support will vary. Consider what structures and habits will meet your student’s needs. Plan for an hour a day per class, using the course Written Student Learning Plan as a guide to stay on pace.
Proactive communication skills. Got a question or encountered a tech problem? Don’t delay – reach out to your teacher or iA staff for support right away.
Having the right tools for the job. A computer doesn’t have to be the latest and greatest, but it needs to meet system requirements and be an actual personal computer, not a tablet or phone, and have reliable internet access. iA does not provide student computers.
